Carol Marie Anderson, 85, passed away Tuesday, March 9th at Palos Community Hospital. Beloved wife of 43 years to the late Ray Anderson; Loving mother of Christine (Late Peter) Globke, Victoria Anderson, Michele (Scott) Curtiss, Raymond (Deborah) Anderson and the late Theresa Myers; Cherished grandmother of 18, Great-grandmother of 28, and Great-great-grandmother; Fond sister of James A. (Mary) Crowley, Joseph Patrick (Vera) Crowley, Dolores Lorraine (Al) Bedella, Elaine Burns, the late Francis A. Crowley and the late Edward (late Virginia) Crowley; and Devoted daughter to the late Charles and Margaret Crowley. Carol was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Palos Hills. She was an avid reader and writer of all kinds of works, but especially poetry. A collection of her poems were published in a book entitled “Ordinary” in 2005. Carol was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. At the age of two she developed a bone disease which immobilized her in bed for the next three years. There her grandmother read to her fairy tales, Aesops Fables, and poetry – her index finger moving under each word. Robert Louis Stevenson, author of Land of Counterpane, spoke directly to the bedridden child igniting a passion for poetry which continued her entire life. Her work has been published in numerous literary journals including: The Aurorean, Cappers, Dream International Quarterly, Grit, Guideposts, Red Owl Magazine and Upsouth. She has had her non-poetic work published in Guideposts and Streetwise. She was a member of the Illinois State Poetry Society. Daily she would write a letter to God sharing her feelings and thoughts. In keeping with her wishes, private cremation rites will be accorded. A Memorial Mass will be said on Saturday, March 27th, 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 8245 W. 111th St. in Palos Hills. Interment will be 11:15 AM at Sacred Heart Cemetery, 101st and Kean in Palos Hills. In lieu of flowers, a donation for a headstone is preferred. It can be sent to Michele Curtiss, 9305 Raven Place, Tinely Park, IL 60477. Family and friends are encouraged to sign the online guestbook and leave a condolence message.
