Douglas Loren Braa, known affectionately as Doug, passed away on December 16, 2023, in Joliet, Illinois after a brief illness. He was born on September 14, 1951, in Mitchell, South Dakota to his loving parents Evelyn and Carl Braa.
Throughout his life, Doug was deeply passionate about music and dedicated himself to a remarkable career in music education. He held esteemed positions as Director of Bands in various locations including Nevada, Iowa, Illinois, and South Dakota. His contributions to music education were immeasurable and he touched the lives of countless students with his expertise and guidance.
Doug pursued his academic interests with great determination and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Huron College in Huron, South Dakota. He further honed his skills by completing a Masters in Music Education from the H.A. Vandercook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois.
Aside from his accomplishments in the field of music education, Doug was known for his vibrant personality and zest for life. He possessed an infectious sense of humor that brought joy to those around him. With his fun-loving and outgoing nature, Doug easily formed lasting connections with people from all walks of life.
Outside the realm of music, Doug had a wide range of interests and hobbies that defined him as an individual. He found solace and inspiration in attending theater performances, traveling to new places, spending quality time with his family, and indulging his passion for automobiles.
Doug's family and friends will remember him fondly for the impact he made on their lives. He leaves behind cherished memories for his beloved wife Becky (nee Mortimer), whom he married in 1993. In addition to Becky, Doug is survived by his brother Dennis of Sioux Falls, South Dakota along with several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on January 6, 2024 at Peace Lutheran Church located at 1900 E Lincoln Hwy, New Lenox, IL 60451. The service will begin at 11:00 AM and conclude at 12:00 PM, offering an opportunity for all who knew Doug to come together and commemorate his life.
In the wake of Doug's passing, his brother Curt and his parents Evelyn and Carl Braa precede him in death. Their memories and legacies will forever be intertwined with his.
Doug Loren Braa's genuine passion for music, his dedication to education, and his vibrant personality have left an indelible mark on the lives of those he touched. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten as his spirit lives on through the lasting impact he made on others. May he rest in eternal harmony.
