Elizabeth M. Coon

Elizabeth M. Coon, 72, of Bourbonnais, passed away Friday, August 12^th following an extended illness. She was born in Scotland to the late Robert and Margaret Hopkins. At around 1 year of age, she and her mother immigrated to America to join her father who had already taken up residence in Illinois. They came in through Ellis Island and immediately worked their way to Illinois. As a young woman, Elizabeth married the love of her life, Leonard Coon, on January 6, 1971. They had 51 years together. They spent the first 16 years of their marriage in the Denver, CO area, before moving back to Illinois. Their union brought two children, David Coon and Christine (Eric) Byland, and 6 grandchildren, Steven, Nicholas, Kayla, Ian, Eric, Jr., and Brooke. Additional survivors include her devoted siblings, Roy (Nancy and the late Violet) Hopkins, Helen (Jim) Coleman, and the late Maureen (late Walter) Zuschlag; and sisters-in-law, Annette (Augie) Lopez and the late Paulette (late Scott) Badsky; and many loving nieces and nephews. Elizabeth worked at the Federal Reserve Bank. She began in the Human Resources Department and through the years, worked her way up the position of Supervision and Regulation. She retired in the early 2000’s. In addition to her family, her greatest pleasure was knitting and sewing. Memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, August 20^th, from Noon until time of service at 2:30 PM at Skyline Memorial Park Chapel, 24800 S. Governors Highway, Monee, IL. She will be placed in the family niche at Skyline immediately following the Memorial Service.
