George Michael "Hoey" McEwen, age 72, late of Manteno, formerly of Olympia Fields and Homewood, Illinois. Cherished son of the late Robert and Helen (nee Brimstin); dear brother of Robert (Ann Krejci) McEwen, Kally (Jim) Reynolds, and Lynn (John) Ruther; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews; longtime companion of the late Catherina Armour; close friend of Mike (Patty) Polzin, Mickey Nelson, Nick Bereck, Karen Kowalski, Dr. Bobbi Lancaster, and J. Meade Wilson.
Hoey was a published author and poet. His signature publication, No Mountains Around Here are Purple details Hoey's journey of hope and heartbreak, joy and agony as a hospice patient.
A celebration of life with military honors and the solemn inurnment of cremated remains will take place on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 Hoff Road, Elwood, Illinois.
