Robert H. "Matt" Mathews

Robert H. Mathews, once affectionately known as Matt gracefully departed from this world February 18, 2024, in his hometown of Mokena, Illinois. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 10, 1942.

Bob led a remarkable life filled with dedication and passion. He graduated from Lincoln-Way High School and embarked on a fulfilling career path that showcased his talents and commitment. His journey began as a mechanic with Cooper and Hostert in Mokena and D & M Ford Dealerships. Later, he transitioned to the original Standard Oil Station in Mokena before securing a long and successful tenure with United Airlines as a Ground Equipment Supervisor at O'Hare International Airport. After 38 years of service, he retired from United Airlines with a lasting legacy. Additionally, for six years, Bob selflessly served as an Officer with the Mokena Police Department, showcasing his unwavering dedication to his community.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Bob was cherished for his kind and considerate nature. He found solace and joy in listening to music every evening. His hobbies and interests were vast, ranging from being a lifelong aviation enthusiast to appreciating classic cars and indulging in learning about history and archaeology.

Bob's presence illuminated the lives of many. He is survived by his loving wife Peggy S., whom he married on November 6, 1962. Their union blessed them with sons Scott (Julie) of New Lenox, Sean (Debbie) of Mokena, and the late Ross of Wilmington. He also leaves behind grandchildren Allison, Nathan, Bryan, Robbie, and Amanda.

In this time of mourning, family and friends gather to honor Bob's memory, at Peace Lutheran Church in New Lenox. Visitation is scheduled for February 23 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. followed immediately by a Memorial Service.

A compassionate soul has left us but the echoes of Bob's kindness and warmth will resonate eternally in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul find eternal peace as we remember him with love and gratitude for all the moments shared together.
