Valerie V. Kilburn, age 88, of Frankfort, Illinois, passed away Sunday July 3rd, 2022 after completing her journey and struggle through dementia. She was born November 15, 1933 in East Orange, New Jersey, daughter of Thomas and Valerie (White) Kilburn. On September 18th, 1954 she married Hugh M. MacCracken of Bellefontaine, OH, who preceded her in death. She was a devoted mother, an accomplished Registered Nurse, pilot, golfer, and traveler. She was a true caregiver to anyone in need, opening her home to strangers in need, caring for patients outside of work, and setting a soaring example for the ones around her. They lived in Kankakee, Illinois and Matteson, Illinois. Together they raised three children, Valerie “Chris” Gail Dipert, late Marcille Miller MacCracken, and Hugh Kilburn MacCracken. She had three grandchildren, Jennifer Faith (Tony) Curcio, daughter of Valerie Dipert, Kyle Bradford MacCracken, and Ryan Thomas (Joy) MacCracken, sons of Hugh and Ellen MacCracken. She
graduated from East Orange High School, attended University of Illinois, and completed her Nursing degree at Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, II in 1968. She spent most of her working career at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights, working in the ICU, and eventually moving to become the head nurse of the Emergency Department. A true independent woman and lover of life, she lived life to the fullest, facing her fears and pushing past them. She traveled the world from New Zealand, Australia, Africa, Europe, Ireland, Hawaii, to the Bahamas, Barbados, Alaska, Mexico, and beyond. A visitation and memorial service will be held at Skyline Memorial Chapel, 24800 S Governors Hwy, Monee, IL 60449, on Saturday, July 9, 2022. Friends will be received from 9:00-10:30 with memorial service to follow at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St Paul Lutheran Church Food Pantry, 6201 Vollmer Rd., Matteson, IL 60443.
